The Ireland Most Visitors Never Experience

Tourism Ireland showed up to GTM in full force, and honestly, they made it very difficult not to start planning another trip immediately.

We all know the Ireland people picture first: the Cliffs of Moher, castles, Guinness, green countryside, and maybe a sheep blocking the road. And yes, I want all of that. But what stood out to me most was how many opportunities there are to experience an Ireland that feels personal, local, and full of stories.

One of my favorite discoveries was Original Irish Hotels, a collection of 52 unique, Irish-owned hotels located throughout the country. These are not cookie-cutter properties that could be picked up and placed anywhere in the world. Each one has its own personality, history, and connection to the community.

Take The Ashe Hotel in Tralee, County Kerry. It is a stylish boutique hotel located right in the center of town, making it a fun home base for exploring Kerry while still being able to walk out the door and experience local shops, restaurants, and everyday life in Tralee. It feels contemporary, but it is still designed to be a neighborhood gathering place for both visitors and locals.

Then there is Abbeyglen Castle Hotel in Clifden, County Galway. Because sometimes when you visit Ireland, you need to stay in a castle. Built in 1832 and located in the heart of Connemara, this is the type of property where the history becomes part of the experience.

In Cork, Cork’s Vienna Woods Hotel offers something completely different. This historic country house was originally built in 1756 and sits among the woodlands of Glanmire, just outside Cork City. It gives you that peaceful country retreat feeling without placing you too far from everything you want to explore in Cork.

What I love about these hotels is that you are not simply choosing somewhere to sleep. You are choosing part of the story of your trip.

And then we learned about the House of Waterford VIP Experience, and I became completely obsessed.

This private experience takes you behind the scenes with a dedicated guide to see how Waterford crystal is made. But you do not just watch. You actually get a hands-on cutting experience and help cut your own piece of crystal. They engrave it for you, so you leave with a personalized souvenir that you had a part in creating.

You also receive personal shopping assistance and finish the experience at the Waterford Bar, where you can craft your own pint of Guinness or celebrate with a glass of champagne. T

This is the Ireland I want my clients to experience. Yes, see the famous landmarks, but also stay in locally owned hotels, meet the people who make these places special, hear their stories, and create something you will bring home and keep forever.

That is the difference between simply visiting Ireland and truly experiencing it.
